Best way to sell a Washer and Dryer

  • Quote

Postby GridironGems »

I help out a gentleman whom is in a retirement facility and he recently moved to a different room. He moved to this facility in 2013 and purchased a Whirlpool Duet stackable washer and dryer. He no longer needs it in his new room and I do not have washer and dryer hookups in my apartment, so I currently have no use for it either. It is currently sitting in a friends garage, so am thinking about just selling them. They are very nice and in excellent shape. Probably only used once per week. Just looking for the best way to sell them and set a price.

I would also try posting an ad on the facility bulletin board. Lots of times incoming residents have a need for different equipment than what they had in their houses.

I've bought a few washers and dryers off Craigslist, and the ones that sell quickly are in relatively good shape and priced in the $100 to $150 range. Unless they are screaming good deals, I usually stay away from front loading washers because A) they are heavy and a pain to move, and B) some models have problems with mold accumulation.

Put ads up in the laundry room or other common area of a condo/co-op building that has stacked washers and dryers in the apartments. Otherwise, Craigslist.

In addition, use training programs where older students with families are enrolled and churches. For example, internship and residency programs. We sold several SUV's by placing ads at theological seminaries where families with little income need reliable transportation. They also need a W/D. Churches will, of course, also ask if you want to donate to a needy family.

I've used CL a lot, but lately I've been selling my junk using facebook marketplace. easy peasy, and seems like you get fewer scammers than on CL. YMMV

Craigslist or letgo. Just sold ours due to a move to a guy that has rentals. He buys good condition used washers n dryers that are on CL. Depending on your area a stackable would be in demand I would think. Worked out well for us.

Facebook and Craigslist.

Don't hassle with LetGo or OfferUp. Those may be area specific, but are worthless here. (I sell 200+ items locally each year).

Looks like Craigslist / Facebook are probably the best options. How about how to determine how much to sell them for? I am not sure what he paid for them, but for brand new, they are going for $1,300 or so

In my area (southern connecticut) you can donate to "Restore" which benefits habitat for humanity. There may be one near you.
