While most of the astrology of 2024 has had us on our toes, this next major transit will ask us to sit back and find healing. On July 26 at 9:59 a.m. ET, asteroid Chiron—the “wounded healer”—will turn retrograde, where it will stay for the remainder of the year. Here’s the story behind Chiron. In Greek mythology, centaur and demi-god Chiron stuck out like a sore thumb. Most centaurs were brutes, but as he was born into the family of celestial gods, he found his way into medicine and shamanic healing to earn his keep. Later, he was shot by a poison arrow, and being a demi-god he could not die. So, he was doomed to roam around in pain, healing others without being able to heal himself—hence, the “wounded healer” title. In astrology, he represents the wound that we, as adults, still carry from our childhood experiences, and how we actually use our knowledge of that wound to heal others. From July 26 to December 29, Chiron will travel backwards in our charts. However, because Chiron moves so slowly, this retrograde will only take us from 23 degrees Aries to 19 degrees Aries. So, for those born between May 1973 to April 1975, this particular Chiron retrograde will hover over your natal Aries Chiron placement. Essentially, what this does is it recalibrates and revitalizes that wound for you. Because this is a retrograde—which is all about revisiting something—from now until the end of the year, you may be engaging in your own form of healing.
There are a few important moments happening while Chiron is retrograde that will elevate our ability to see (and heal) wounds. On September 16, two days before the Pisces full moon lunar eclipse, Chiron will make an opposition to Venus, the planet of love. On the edge of a full moon, right before the solar eclipse in relationship-oriented Libra on October 2, it gives us permission to speak our mind and really take inventory of how well (or not-so-well) we’ve healed within partnerships. We’ll get a chance to share these vulnerabilities on October 8, when Chiron opposes Mercury. Over the next few months, supporting aspects to Mercury and Venus will help us revisit old relationship hurts without fear—and instead, with an interesting curiosity that will help us find closure before the year is up.

This may be emphasizing your healing journey, encouraging you to take it to the next level.
