» Crab Rangoon Dip (2024)

What’s easier to make than crab rangoons but tastes just as good as the real thing? Crab Rangoon Dip! It’s creamy and cheesy, and packed with crab just like rangoons but without all the folding and shaping. The easier it is to make, the better it tastes in my opinion!

Making the Filling

Let’s start by making the filling! It actually comes together so quickly because you don’t need to cook anything in preparation. Here are all the ingredients you need:

  • imitation crab, shredded
  • cream cheese
  • sour cream
  • scallions
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • chili powder
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • shredded cheese

Just add all the ingredients above to a mixing bowl and combine together. You can also add in some cilantro if you’d like. If you love spicy, add some red pepper flakes. And that’s it, easy peasy!

The Wonton Chips

Since this is a dip instead of actual crab rangoons, we’ll be using the wonton wrappers to make “tortilla chips”. You can make them using egg roll wrappers or wonton wrappers. Wonton wrappers are just smaller versions of egg roll wrappers. If you use wonton wrappers, just cut in half diagonally to form two triangular pieces. If you use an egg roll wrapper, cut each sheet into four squares and then cut each square diagonally so now you end up with eight triangle pieces.

Heat vegetable oil until hot (temperature reaches 325°F to 350°F). Add the cut wonton strips into the hot oil and fry until golden and bubbly. Make sure to fry them in batches to not overcrowd them so they can crisp up nicely.

Transfer to a wire rack to drain any excess oil and optional, salt them if you like! Set aside until the dip is baked.

Assembly and Baking

Now that all the components are prepped, we can assemble and bake!

You have two options when assembling this dish. You can either prepare it in one individual large baking dish like in an 8×8 pan. The other option is to use individual mini skillets like I did in the photos. It’s just up to personal preference.

Add the filling to the baking dish and cover with cheese. I like to use a half and half blend of cheddar cheese and Monterey jack cheese. Pop in the oven to bake for about 15 minutes at 350°F. After baking, turn the oven to broil just for 2 to 4 minutes until the top is golden brown, bubbly, and crispy.

Take out of the oven and add a drizzle of sweet chili sauce on top, more green onions, chopped cilantro, and even some toasted sesame seeds if you like. Serve with wonton chips to enjoy.

NOTE: Serve with spoons to add the dip on the chips because the chips are very thin, they can easily break if you dip them directly.
