Ingredients Needed

  • Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup
  • Cream Cheese
  • Milk –Use any percentage fat milk you have. I prefer using a higher fat milk like whole milk when any baking or cooking recipe calls for milk.
  • Garlic Powder
  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • Deli Ham Slices –Any variety of ham can be used like honey ham, Black Forest ham, brown sugar ham. I prefer to go to the deli counter and ask for slices of ham, but you can also purchase prepared and ready-to-eat deli ham from the refrigerated area of the store as well.
  • Sliced Swiss Cheese
  • Herb Stuffing Mix –This is the dry stuffing mix that comes in a box. You can also substitute with your favorite flavor stuffing mix if you prefer a different one.
  • Butter

How To Make This Slow Cooker Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole Recipe (Printable Recipe Card Below)

In a mixing bowl, add the mushroom and chicken condensed cream soup, milk, cream cheese, and garlic powder. Stir together until combined well and it forms a creamy sauce. Spread a small amount of the soup mixture into the bottom of the crockpot insert (about 1/3 cup of it).

Crockpot Chicken Cordon Bleu (Easy Slow Cooker Recipe) (4)

Layer chicken breasts in a single layer over top the soup layer inside the crockpot.

Layer the ham slices over top of the chicken followed by the Swiss cheese slices. Make sure to try to cover the chicken breasts completely with the ham and cheese slices.

Pour the remaining soup mixture evenly over the layered chicken, ham, and cheese.

Sprinkle the dry herb stuffing mix evenly over the soup layer. Drizzle the melted butter over the stuffing, making sure to moisten it as much as possible. The goal is to distribute the butter evenly for the perfectly moistened stuffing.

Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on LOW heat for 4-6 hours until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

Once cooked, turn off the heat to the slow cooker (or place it on the WARM setting) and let it sit for 5-8 minutes to allow the stuffing to set. I like to tilt the lid which helps the excess moisture to escape while the stuffing sets.

How To Store Leftovers

Any leftover chicken cordon bleu should be stored in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, and eaten within 3 days. To reheat, warm up the leftovers in the oven at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes. Or microwave in short intervals until heated through. If using the microwave, I always recommend adding just a small amount of water or chicken broth to keep things moist while reheating.

Recipe FAQ’s

Is It Necessary To Use Two Different Creamed Soups?

Using two different soups adds depth of flavor and I do recommend using two different varieties.

Can I use Frozen Chicken Breasts?

I do not recommend using frozen chicken breasts in this recipe. When frozen chicken thaws and cooks, it gives off some liquid (from the thawing) which can interfere with the creamy sauce and could possibly make the stuffing too mushy and soft. If all you have is frozen chicken, then I suggest letting it thaw in the fridge overnight before using. I prefer using fresh chicken breasts purchased from the store.

How Do I Know When The Chicken Is Fully Cooked?

The chicken is done, and at a safe temperature, when an instant read thermometer reads 165 degrees F. Check the temperature of each chicken breast before turning off the heat and serving it.

Can I Cook It On High Heat In The Crock Pot?

Yes, you can cook this on HIGH heat for 2-3 hours but I recommend only cooking on LOW heat. Low & slow is the best way to go when it comes to slow cooking in the crockpot.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (very softened)
  • 2/3 cup milk (I use whole milk)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (trimmed of fat pieces)
  • 8 slices thin deli ham
  • 8 slices swiss cheese
  • 1 box (6 oz) herb stuffing mix
  • 6 tablespoons butter melted

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, add the cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, cream cheese, milk, and garlic powder. Stir together until combined well and it forms a creamy sauce. Spread a small amount of the soup mixture into the bottom of the crockpot insert so it forms an even layer.

*Unwrap the cream cheese and place it on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave for 20-40 seconds in order to get it really softened. You want the cream cheese warm & softened so it mixes in easily with the other ingredients and doesn't lump.

1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup, 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup, 4 ounces cream cheese, 2/3 cup milk, ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Layer chicken breasts in a single layer over top the soup layer inside the crockpot.

    4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • Pour the remaining soup mixture evenly over the layered chicken, ham, and cheese.

  • Sprinkle the dry herb stuffing mix evenly over the soup layer. Drizzle the melted butter over the stuffing, making sure to moisten it as much as possible. The goal is to distribute the butter evenly for the perfectly moistened stuffing.

1 box (6 oz) herb stuffing mix, 6 tablespoons butter

Notes

Serving Size Tip : My kids don’t eat a whole chicken breast so I usually cut each breast in half (I end up with 8 smaller pieces, not thinner pieces so don’t cut horizontally) and that way it’s easier to serve from the crockpot. Some of my kids will eat two pieces while the younger ones just want one piece. If the chicken is cut in half, it probably won’t need as long to cook – maybe on the shorter end of the cook time (4-5 hours).
