I have an easy spinach quiche recipe with no mayonnaise is for you!! I have to start out saying that I don’t cook from scratch hardly at all, and if something isn’t easy it doesn’t happen in my house. (affiliate links present)

Easy Spinach Quiche no Mayonnaise

Needless to say this is a really yummy throw everything in a bowl, into the pie shell and into the oven kinda’ recipe. Even my kids even love (I call it cheese pie for them). 😉 Spinach quiche isn’t typically a kid friendly meal. I will say it took several times of “you have to take at least one bite” for them to actually say “yes!” when I said I was serving quiche.

NOW though they love it right along with us. You can make it as simple or loaded up as you like. We add mushrooms, bacon, and minced onion but you can do just a 3 ingredient vegetarian spinach quiche too if you’d rather. 😉 Make with refrigerated crust or our Tater tot spinach quiche seen above that tastes amazing.

Frozen Spinach Quiche Recipe

If you have ever made a spinach pie of any kind before they all have a similar taste, and can be doctored up to include other diced veggies too. Mushrooms and bacon bits are great of course. The crust is up to you as well. Of course ready made Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts are the easiest.

  • Frozen creamed spinach – this is the one I use, many of my grocery stores carry it
    • different than frozen spinach, this is creamier
    • if you can’t find it you can use fresh or frozen chopped spinach in a skillet over medium heat to make it creamed spinach
    • I haven’t done this but imagine if you use 10 oz. total like I did it would work just fine
  • Eggs
  • Swiss cheese are the two other things you need for the basic spinach baked quiche
  • 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup diced bacon or leftover ham are great add ins
  • Sliced mushrooms are a must for us too

Throw it in a pie plate with your refrigerated (already made) or our pot pie crust and you’re ready to pop it in! It is certainly best right out of the oven so the cheese is ooey gooey but reheats well if it sits for a while and begins to cool down.

Easy Spinach Quiche

I make this simple quiche recipe on a semi weekly basis as a main dish. I serve with a side of salad, or sometimes I serve it with some cooked sausage.

This breakfast quiche is really simple to make as you just need to grate the cheese and throw the frozen creamed spinach in the microwave. Everything else is already ready to add into the bowl. Then bake at 375 degrees and enjoy.

This should take about 45 minutes total to prepare and cook. Many times I make them into Mini Quiches because I like how it cooks faster. The edges get a bit crunchy, and the kids love them because they are all theirs. 😉

All you do to make these is roll out the refrigerated pie crust. Use a regular glass to cut out the circles of dough. Then fill them as you normally would an entire pie and bake. That recipe and this quiche made with a tater tot crust is below. Easy muffin tin mini quiches are possible too, see below.

Either way you decide to make it, a whole quiche “pie” or mini quiches you really can’t go wrong. It is super easy to make and relatively healthy. Let me tell you that after a year of making this my whole family now LOVEs it when I say quiche is for dinner. Ok so I call it cheese pie for them but whatever. 😉

Recipe for Spinach Quiche

I would allow it to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before slicing. This will let it solidify a bit more so when you cut pieces they’ll come out nice and pretty. If I have a larger refrigerated pie crust that drapes a bit over the edge I will cover those edges with foil and take off 10 minutes before it’s done so they don’t burn. Printable recipe is below with nutritional information such as calories, saturated fat, etc listed as well.

How to reheat leftover quiche

Reheating leftover quiche is simple and can be done in a few different ways depending on your preference and available equipment. Here are three methods for reheating leftover quiche:

  1. Reheating Quiche in the Oven
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F
    • Place the leftovers on a baking sheet or oven-safe dish.
    • Cover loosely with aluminum foil to prevent the top from over-browning.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until heated through.
    • Remove the foil during the last 5 minutes of baking to allow the top to crisp up if desired.
    • Once heated through, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  2. How to Reheat Quiche in the Microwave
    • Place individual slices on a microwave-safe plate.
    • Microwave on medium power (50%) for 1-2 minutes, depending on the strength of your microwave and the thickness of the slices.
    • Check halfway through reheating and rotate the plate if necessary for even heating.
    • Continue reheating until your piece is heated through.
    • Let it cool for a minute or two before serving, as it will be very hot.
  3. Reheat Quiche in a Pan
    • Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
    • Place the slice(s) in the skillet.
    • Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil to help heat evenly and prevent it from drying out.
    • Heat for about 5-7 minutes, flipping it halfway through, until it is heated through and the crust is crispy.
    • Once heated through, remove the quiche from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before serving.

Regardless of the method you choose, it’s essential to ensure that the thickest part is heated evenly throughout and reaches a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees F before eating.

FAQs

Should spinach be cooked before adding to quiche? ›

Steam the spinach until it's just wilted. Then, transfer it to a kitchen towel and wring out the excess water. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk, beating until no streaks of egg white remain. Add the steamed spinach, green onions, cheese, salt, and several grinds of pepper.

Is milk better than heavy cream in quiche? ›

Heavy Cream and Milk – For the best tasting quiche, use a combination of whole milk and heavy cream. (Or simply use half-and-half.) Using just heavy cream produces an overly thick filling. Whole milk is great, but a combo of heavy cream and milk is better.

What is the formula for quiche? ›

Quiche Ratio: 1 large egg to 1/2 cup of dairy

You'll need to increase the amount of eggs and milk based on the size of your quiche, so knowing the basic ratio makes it really easy to scale up or down. For a standard 9-inch quiche: Use 3 large eggs (6 ounces) 1 1/2 cups of whole milk or cream (12 ounces)

Why is my spinach quiche watery? ›

Why is my spinach quiche watery? If you've ever cooked a big bag of spinach, you know that it wilts down to practically nothing! That's because spinach is mostly water. Let the spinach thaw overnight in the fridge or use the defrost setting on your microwave to speed things up.

What not to put in quiche? ›

Avoid Fillings That Are Too Wet

"Some vegetables, such as sliced large tomatoes or raw zucchini, have a high water content and will make your quiche soggy (even if you follow all steps to avoid this!)," Davila notes.

What is a substitute for cream in quiche? ›

To replace 1 cup (237 mL) of heavy cream in your recipe, add 2 tablespoons (19 grams) of cornstarch to 1 cup (237 mL) of milk and stir, allowing the mixture to thicken. You can use whole milk or opt for skim milk to help slash the calories and fat content of your recipe.

Why isn't my quiche creamy? ›

Figuring out your proportions couldn't be simpler – for each egg you use, you need half a cup of milk. Too little dairy, and your quiche will be dry instead of creamy. Too much, and it won't set properly.

Can I substitute Greek yogurt for heavy cream in quiche? ›

If you're low on dairy ingredients, don't fret. Greek yogurt can substitute milk, sour cream and heavy cream. Milk: If you're short on milk, half and half or light cream, Greek yogurt can be used to make up for the difference.

Do you have to cook spinach before baking it? ›

Yes — but don't overdo it! Fresh spinach releases a lot of water as it cooks, which can result in a soggy lasagna. That's why you'll want to sauté the spinach until it just wilts, which prevents it from releasing too much liquid too quickly.

Should you always cook spinach? ›

Spinach. The leafy green is packed with nutrients, but you'll absorb more calcium and iron if you eat it cooked. The reason: Spinach is loaded with oxalic acid, which blocks the absorption of iron and calcium but breaks down under high temperatures. What Do You Really Get When You Buy Organic?

When should you add spinach? ›

Adding Fresh Spinach to Your Recipes

For an extra boost of nutrients, try adding spinach to your favorite recipes. Throw in a few handfuls to a classic pasta dish during the last few minutes of cooking time until it just starts to wilt.

Why do we boil spinach before cooking? ›

Therefore, although spinach can be eaten raw, it is best to eat cooked spinach. Many nutritionists believe that steaming and boiling is an effective cooking method that can reduce the oxalic acid in spinach by 80% to 90%.
