Guiding Principles for 2020-21

The main guiding principle that leads our work and decision-making process for the 2020-21 school year is an unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our students, employees and the community. Although the school year looks different, we have adapted to the conditions within the community and have held steadfast to the principles that have guided us since last spring. Our guiding principles:

  • Health and safety of students, employees and the community

  • Social-emotional supports for our students and employees both in-person and remotely

  • Core instruction for in-person learning

  • We will introduce new learning opportunities

  • In-person learning when possible

  • Prioritize students with greater educational needs

  • Keep families on the same schedule when possible

Advocacy

Dr. Humphries spent over 4 years working with legislators, advocacy groups and school district superintendents from across the state to help bring equity to children across Illinois with a change to the school funding formula. For the first time in over 20 years, the state funding formula finally recognized that a child’s education should not be dependent on their zip code. Below is a picture of Dr. Humphries and other advocates that witnessed thepassage of a new school funding formula on August 29, 2017.
