Are you looking for a great non sticky slime recipe that the kids are going to love? This recipe is mess-free and certain to please!

Slime is something that kids love to play with, but the mess is anxiety-producing for many parents. If you’re anything like me, you probably only allow slime making and slime play under the closest supervision. I’ve had to figure out how to get slime out of the carpet, our sofa, and hair.

But, this mess-free slime is much safer and a whole lot less messy than traditional slime recipes. This version is a little thicker and won’t stick as easily to fabric, and it doesn’t have that sticky texture of classic slime. I can let the kids play with this version at the kitchen table without worrying about it destroying the house.

This makes the kids happy that they get make slime and I’m happy that I don’t have to spend hours cleaning up slime, either.

Here is how you can make your own non sticky slime!

Directions to make Non Sticky Slime

The key to mess-free slime is to make a thicker slime recipe, almost like playdough or silly putty. The thicker the slime, the less mess you’ll have!

One thing to note is that while we like clear slime for stretchy and messy slime, for some reason, clear glue crumbles when made at thicker consistencies. This makes it turn into a *huge* mess, so we recommend using white glue only for this recipe.

Our normal slime recipe uses a ratio of 1 part water to 1 part glue. For non sticky slime, use a ratio of 1/3 part water to 1 part glue. You just want a touch of extra water.

Mix a teaspoon of borax powder into a cup of water and set aside.

In another container, mix your glue, water, and food coloring or watercolor dye. Add about 1-2 tablespoons of cornstarch and mix.

Pour the borax water into the glue bowl and stir.

The glue will form slime right away. Once the mixture thickens together, remove it from the bowl and discard any leftover water.

Stretch and fold the slime until it forms an even texture.

Right now, the slime will be virtually mess-free (unless you step on it or grind it into the carpet or clothing), but if you let it sit in the air for a few hours, it gets even less messy.

Place the slime in a flat container and let it sit for a few hours (I did it while my kids were at school). When they got home from school, the slime was ready to play with and didn’t stick to any hard surface. However, it was still stretchy and pliable and more like slime than play dough.

This non sticky slime recipe also lasts a lot longer than most slimes. My kids were able to keep playing with it for a few weeks before we finally threw it out.

Just keep it stored in an airtight container to make this non sticky slime last as long as possible!
