Is Merlin a good general in Evony?

Merlin is an excellent choice as your lead Ranged PvP General with a kit that is purely focused on buffing this troop type alongside some small gains to Siege Machines for a little extra utility with mixed marches. His Special Skill, Weaving the Fate, is the real highlight, with buffs that include an additional 45% to Ranged Troop HP and Attack and 30% to Ranged Troop and Siege Machine defense. However, do note that the majority of his buffs are only active in attack and therefore be careful not to use him as your Defense General.

Merlin – Special Skill

An Evony General’s Special Skill is always active and requires no development. Read the description carefully to ensure it is having the impact that you expect.

Weaving the Fate

Increases ranged troops’ attack and HP by 45% and ranged troops and siege machines’ defense by 30% when General is leading the army to attack.

Ascended Special Skill Buffs

Below are the additional buffs that an ascended Merlin will receive to his Special Skill for each ascended star level.

• 1 Star – Marching Ranged Troop Attack +25% and Defense +10%.
• 2 Star – Marching Ranged Troop Death into Wounded Rate +8%.
• 3 Star – Marching Ranged Troop Attack +15%, Defense and HP +15%.
• 4 Star – Marching Ranged Troop and Siege Machine Defense +15% and HP +15%.
• 5 Star – Marching Ranged Troop Attack +20%, Defense and HP +20%.

Merlin – Specialities

These skills are unlocked once the Evony General reaches level 25. They can be expensive to develop, requiring Gems and Runestones. Read our Evony General Guide for more details.

• Ranged Troop Attack +10%
• Ranged Troop Defense +10%

Bash

• Ranged Troop and Siege Machine Attack +10%

Ranged Troop Ares

Light of Wisdom

• Marching Ranged Troop Attack +40%
• Marching Ranged Troop Defense +30%
• Attacking Ranged Troop and Siege Machine HP +15%

The below builds outline which skill books and equipment refines you should use depending on your requirements.

Ranged PvP

This build is ideal for players who are very range-heavy. It sacrifices everything in favor of ranged attack whilst also topping up ranged troop HP and Defense via equipment refines. This build will ensure you do maximum damage, especially in the early game when players are quite mounted heavy.

• Lvl 4 Ranged Troop Attack – Ranged Attack +25%
• Lvl 4 Ranged Troop Range Bonus – Ranged Troop Range +100
• Lvl 4 March Size – March Size +12%
• Equipment Refines:
• Bow – Ranged Troop Attack % x4
• Armor – Ranged Troop Defense % x4
• Boots – Ranged Troop Defense % x4
• Helmet – Ranged Troop HP % x4
• Leg Armor – Ranged Troop HP % x4
• Ring – Ranged Troop Attack % x4

Siege and Ranged PvP

Due to this general’s buff to both ranged troops and siege machines, it can be a good play to run a mixed march with both troop types in certain scenarios. This build will work well for these situations. Siege range is prioritized over siege attack as siege attack is already very high with the additional range giving you some extra attacks before the enemy has you in their range.
