Grilled Corn in Foil with Lemon Dill Butter (2024)

Grilling corn on the cob in foil is one of the easiest and tastiest ways to make corn! Add in a delicious lemon dill butter and this grilled corn on the cob is an essential part of summer.

Corn on the cob is a staple in our house all summer long and we get excited every year when corn season returns. We love those plump, tender kernels that spontaneously squirt when you bite into them.

Why Should You Grill Corn on the Cob in Foil?

When you grill corn on the cob in foil, the prep is minimal and the kernels turn out so moist and flavorful. The foil traps the steam and corn juices to keep the ears from drying out so there’s no need for pre-soaking the corn.

On hot summer days, you can avoid turning on your stove by cooking foil-wrapped corn outside on the grill. Cooking corn in foil requires hardly any prep and is the easiest method. It is also quick and takes just 15-20 minutes on a grill at medium/high heat.

Can I Prep Foil Wrapped Corn Ahead?

Cooking corn on the cob in foil is also a great way to cook corn when camping. You can pre-wrap your ears before leaving home and they are ready to toss into the campfire when you get to your campsite! I do recommend double-wrapping the corn in two layers of foil if you plan to cook it in a campfire.

How to Season your Corn on the Cob?

You can serve the corn plain without butter (if you’re counting calories) and enjoy your juicy cob right out of the foil, but perfectly seasoned corn on the cob screams summertime. The lemon dill butter is a tasty addition to foil-grilled corn and makes this grilled corn mouth-wateringly delicious.

How to Make Lemon Dill Butter:

  1. Cream the butter with a fork in a bowl.
  2. Stir in the pepper, salt, and lemon juice until smooth. The lemon juice will take a few minutes of stirring to mix well – just keep stirring!
  3. Mix in the freshly chopped dill and keep the butter room temperature until you serve the corn.

How to Grill Corn in Foil:

  1. Preheat Grill to Med/High. Shuck corn to remove husks. Leave the corn whole or break corn into the desired size. Wrap each ear of corn with a generous sheet of aluminum foil, making sure all sides are covered. If using regular kitchen-standard foil, wrap in a double layer of foil so your corn doesn’t get scorched.
  2. Grill foil-wrapped corn with the lid closed over medium/high heat, rotating the corn every 2 -3 minutes to keep from scorching. Grill for 15-20 minutes. Ours was done at 18 minutes.
  3. Once the corn is finished grilling, remove foil, and brush generously with Lemon Dill Butter while warm. Serve immediately (you won’t want to wait!).

Pro Tip: I don’t add any butter or oil to the cob inside the foil. The corn is naturally juicy and the foil seals in the moisture. You also don’t have to worry about oil leaking out of the corn and causing fiery flare-ups on the grill.
