Rice Krispies Treats Just Announced a New Flavor Combo, and Fans Are Gonna Love It (2024)

Kellanova — the company behind Pop-Tarts, Pringles, and Cheez-Its — is debuting a brand new way to enjoy one of the country’s favorite snacks: Rice Krispies Treats.

Starting this spring, you’ll be able to snag a box of Rice Krispies Treats Chocolatey Peanut Butter at your favorite snack purveyor. And it’s a brand-new, sweet-and-salty version of the iconic cereal bar.

Rice Krispies Treats is a snack that has survived the test of time. The Kellogg company introduced it in 1939 as a way to promote Rice Krispies cereal, although the snack was already being made in home kitchens at sleepovers long before that.

The brand says that chocolate peanut butter has been at the top of Rice Krispies Treat fans’ wish lists for a while now, making the launch of the new flavor a bit of a no-brainer for the company.

To make the snack, real peanut butter is added to the traditional cereal and marshmallow mix, while chocolate is layered on the bottom of each treat. Much like the classic version, each snack is packaged individually. But while the traditional Rice Krispies Treats come in blue packaging, Rice Krispies Treats Chocolatey Peanut Butter packages are split down the middle, with one side in seminal blue and the other in orange — adorned with an image of a dollop of peanut butter and a small brick of chocolate.

“For years, fans nationwide have written in to us asking for this flavor, so we are thrilled to finally satisfy everyone’s craving for Rice Krispies Treats Chocolatey Peanut Butter,” says Juan Boido, senior brand manager at Kellanova. “We can’t wait to hear what our fans think.”

Rice Krispies Treats are already one of the most popular snacks out there. A recent report by market research company HubScore found that they were the most searched-for snack in the United States, topping the search results in 18 different states in our fine nation. The snack’s popularity forms a marshmallow belt of sorts across the United States, starting in Washington and making its way through Utah, Colorado, and Kansas, before extending upwards through Iowa and Minnesota.

Snackers are particularly fond of the cereal-turned-dessert in Alaska, Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

Rice Krispies Treats Chocolatey Peanut Butter will officially be hitting snack aisles at retailers nationwide starting this spring. The snack’s suggested retail price is $4.49 for a box of seven bars or $8.42 for a box of 14.
