The Hebrew nounלילה (laylah, pronounced LAI-luh), means "night." We find it early in the Bible in Genesis 1:5: "God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night (לילה)." It is also part of the common expression in modern Hebrew, "laylah tov," meaning "good night."
