The name of the marshmallow and puffed rice snack has been accused of being misleading
EVER wondered why Rice Krispies Squares aren’t actually squares?
The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that the marshmallow and puffed rice snack is actually a RECTANGLE.
In fact, the bar measures 9cm by 4.5cm, meaning that to make an actual square, you would need to cut it in half.
Fans of the Kellogg’s treat have been getting a bit puffed up about this on social media with many pointing out that the name is misleading.
Kellogg’s do have an explanation – even if it’s not a great one.
A spokesperson said: “Historically it is believed Rice Krispies Squares were named after the traditional ‘square shape’ of large US tray bakes.
“As the product evolved became more rectangular the name had already stuck, and it was difficult to imagine the bars under any other name.”
