Sunlight does not go very deep into water so seaweed must grow at the surface where its rays can reach them. Starting with the sun, food chains link together plants and animals in various ecosystems to help them survive. What are Food Chains and Webs? describes these connections in a clear manner that children will understand. Fascinating diagrams show - the connection between herbivores, carnivores, scavengers, decomposers, and themselves - concepts such as energy pyramids, photosynthesis, and consumer hierarchies - an entertaining food web game

This is a great content book that goes into depth about food chains and food webs. Therefore, it will be a great addition to the teacher's bookshelf for science books in the class library. I like this book because it discusses the importance of energy from the food chain. Also, it introduces related terms such as producer, consumer, food chain, food web, ecosystem, herbivore, etc. It also has a glossary in the back of the book. It's illustrations are accurate and helpful to students. It is a great resource to have in the classroom for student use. There is no doubt that I would have my fourth grade students use this book as they create their own food web during an activity.

What Are Food Chains and Webs? by Bobbie Kalman, is an informative text that discusses the food chain, food web, and ecological communities. Not only does this book have great vocabulary words, it also provides a glossary in the back of the book.

This book uses real photographs of the animals and plants that enhance the text. The pages are also very colorful and the information is easy for kids to understand.

This book would inspire a lesson for my students to complete a KWL chart. Before reading the text, the students will fill out “What I know” and “What I want to know.” Then after reading the book, the students will fill out “What I learned” section on their paper.
