Another week and another set of recalls issued by Health Canada.

Residents of Ontario are advised to check their homes for the following items, which can pose mild to severe health risks and injuries.

Battery Pack within certain Anker EverFrost Powered Coolers

The Anker EverFrost Powered Coolers, part of the recent recall, are portable refrigerators powered by batteries designed for outdoor activities like camping, travel, and fishing.

The following products are part of the recall:

  • Anker Detachable Battery pack for Powered Cooler—A17B0
  • Anker EverFrost Powered Coolers 30— A17A0
  • Anker EverFrost Powered Coolers 40—A17A1
  • Anker EverFrost Powered Coolers 50—A17A2

The problem originates from the lithium-ion batteries included with the coolers, which may overheat.

The company reported that 166 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between March 2023 and July 2023.

Risks: Fire hazard.

What you should do: Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and contact Anker for a replacement battery pack.

As of October 20, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Maple Leaf brand Vienna Sausage

The product comes in the 113 grams size and all Best Before Dates up to and including Aug. 24, 2025, are recalled.

The following UPC is impacted:

  • 0 636191 8

Maple Leaf brand Vienna Sausage is being recalled due to bulging cans.

According to Health Canada shoppers are cautioned from purchasing or using cans that are damaged or bulging.

Risk: No health issues have been reported.

What you should do: Individuals are advised to not consume the bulging product and to throw it away.

Various Custom Window Coverings with Ties by BalticLinenIdille

The recall pertains to custom window coverings— specifically tie-up curtains, pure linen roll-up blinds, farmhouse balloon shades, and tie-up valances. These curtains are available in 40 colors.

The products were retailed and sold online by BalticLinenIdille through Etsy Canada.

Children may pull looped cords around their necks or become entangled in them causing injuries and even death. Health Canada suggests using cordless window coverings to mitigate this risk.

The company reported that 16 units of the affected product were sold in Canada between October, 2019 to May, 2023.

Risks: Potential strangulation hazard to children.

What you should do: Stop using the recalled item and keep all cords away from children.

As of October 5, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Yuxiang Aquatic brand seafood balls

The food recall issued on Oct. 27 has been revised to provide more details about undisclosed allergens and product information, during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) safety investigation

The following items are impacted by the recall:

  • Oyster balls—841899007424
  • Shrimp balls—841899007431
  • Shrimp balls with cheese—841899007448
  • Litchi shrimp balls —841899007455

The recall is due to potential undeclared egg, fish, gluten, milk, and soy in the products.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

Risks: Health risks.

What you should do: Individuals are asked to not consume if they have an allergy sensitivity to the above ingredients including gluten or have been diagnosed with celiac disease.

There have been no reported reactions associated with the consumption of these products.

President’s Choice brand White Sliced Mushrooms

The white sliced mushrooms are available in the 454 gram size with the UPC 0 60383 05934 7 and Best Before date 2023 OC 30.

The issue is the food is believed to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes which may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

Risks: Vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

What you should do: Recalled food products should be thrown out or returned to the store they were purchased from
