(NEXSTAR) –TheKansas City Chiefs have earned themselves the Vince Lombardi Trophyfor defeating the San Francisco 49ers Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII. While the winning team is awarded the gleaming trophy, the individual players get to take home something even flashier:Super Bowl rings.
What about the losers? They also get a ring – though not one to commemorate their presence at the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl losers still get a ring honoring them as champions of their respective conference, the AFC or NFC. The ring designs vary from year to year, and they are customized to the player, including their name and jersey number.
Super Bowl rings also look different every year –though they’re always flashy. The design is up to the winning team’s owner and the jeweler they work with.
Last year, the Chiefs’ ring –which were decked out in more than 600 diamonds – had lots of hidden meaning in its design.
The ring’s design is a node to Arrowhead Stadium, said the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The top comes off to reveal a bejeweled, dimensional replica of the field.
The top of each ring featured either one, two or three Lombardi trophies, depending on how many Super Bowl wins the player had with the Chiefs.
Another custom feature: the ring tops each had 38 diamonds – one for each point scored against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The rings totaled 16.10 carats each.
The blinged out creations will be awarded to winners a few months after the big game during a Super Bowl Ring Ceremony.
